Is Salt Bad For You?

Is Salt Bad For You?

IS SALT BAD FOR YOU?

You've heard it on the news for years now, salt is bad for you. Fast food has too much salt and you should do everything you can to reduce salt intake.

So, what's in the news now- salt is GOOD for you? What? How can that be?  First you hear salt is bad for you, then salt is good for you, it's so confusing!

I want to help straighten it out, and clear things up.

Salt aka Sodium Chloride and also written as NaCl comes to us, the consumer in various forms.

Table salt, which is the main salt you find at the grocery store, IS bad for you, or at the very least isn't good for you. During mass production, including heating to high temperatures,  minerals have been removed and it has lost most of its health benefits. Its main purpose is to provide flavour to your food, not nutrients for your health.

Water is the most important substance on earth and in the human body. We all know its important to drink water. But why? And how much is enough?

Let's start with the WHY?

  • Have you ever heard: by the time you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated?! Its true!
  • Your body is made of about 60 % water! Its important for all functions from digestion to detox to circulation and nerve function. Sweating, urine and tears all mean that as it comes in, it also leaves.
  • You do get some replacement of liquid in food, but its likely not even half the amount you need.

Baked Pumpkin and Squash Seeds Recipe

It's that time of year! Pumpkin everything! There are so many sweetened pumpkin spiced treats, from cookies to coffee to muffins.  I prefer the real deal- pumpkin seeds. They are very nutritious, and deliciously crunchy as well. One of natures perfect snack foods.

This recipe works with both pumpkin seeds, and squash seeds. They are so delicious, it will probably make  you want to cut up a new squash each night for dinner. Both pumpkin and squash are a bit messy to clean, but I promise this is worth it!

  1. Start by cutting up your squash or pumpkin so you have access to the center. You can go ahead and make your dinner, and leave the seeds to bake after.
  2. Using a spoon, scrape the insides out, this will include the seeds and the pumpkin/ squash 'guts'.
