Homemade Immune-Boosting Fire Cider Drink Recipe

Serving Size: ~16-32 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup fresh ginger root, grated or finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup fresh horseradish root, grated or finely chopped

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 10 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed

  • 1-2 jalapeño peppers, chopped (adjust for desired heat)

  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon

  • 2 tablespoons turmeric powder (or 2 inches fresh turmeric root, grated)

  • 1 tablespoon ground cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

  • 1/4 cup raw honey (optional, for sweetness)

  • 2-3 sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 cups raw apple cider vinegar (enough to cover ingredients)

Directions:

  1. Grate the fresh ginger and horseradish, chop the onion, garlic, and jalapeños, and zest and juice the lemon.

  2. In a large glass jar (quart-sized mason jar), layer the grated ginger and horseradish at the bottom, followed by the onion, garlic, and jalapeños.

  3. Add the lemon zest and juice, then place the rosemary or thyme sprigs and cinnamon sticks on top. Sprinkle turmeric powder and cayenne pepper over the ingredients.

  4. Pour raw apple cider vinegar into the jar, ensuring everything is fully submerged, leaving about 1/2 inch at the top.

  5. If using a metal lid, place parchment or wax paper between the jar and the lid to prevent corrosion. Seal the jar tightly and shake gently to mix the ingredients.

  6. Store the jar in a cool, dark place and shake it once daily for 2-4 weeks. After 2-4 weeks, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean jar, pressing the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.

  7. If desired, stir in raw honey to taste. Store the fire cider in the refrigerator for up to 6 months.
