6 Herbal Teas That Support Hormone Balance and Stress Relief for Women Over 40

Many of the women I work with tell me the same thing. By mid afternoon their energy crashes.

They have been sitting at a desk all day, juggling work, responsibilities at home, and a long to-do list. Around 2 or 3 pm they start to feel tired, a little stressed, and looking for something to help them get through the rest of the day. For some it is another coffee. For others it is a quick trip to the vending machine.

But midlife is often when our bodies become more sensitive to things like caffeine, sugar, and stress. Hormones are shifting, sleep may not be as deep as it used to be, and that quick boost can leave you feeling even more drained later.

One simple habit I often suggest to clients is swapping that afternoon coffee or sugary snack for a cup of tea. Herbal teas can support your body in gentle ways and may help with things like stress, digestion, sleep, and hormone balance.

Even better, taking a few minutes to sit with a warm cup of tea can give your body a small reset in the middle of a busy day.

Let’s look at a few teas that can be especially helpful for women in midlife.

1. Spearmint Tea

Spearmint tea has become increasingly popular for women dealing with hormone related symptoms such as acne, irregular cycles, or signs of higher androgen levels.

Some small studies suggest that spearmint may help lower androgen levels in women. Androgens are hormones that can contribute to things like excess oil production in the skin or unwanted hair growth when levels are elevated.

Spearmint tea is actually one of my personal favorites. It has a light, refreshing flavor and many people find it soothing for digestion as well. While peppermint is often the mint most associated with nausea relief, spearmint can also help settle the stomach, which makes it a nice option to enjoy after meals.

2. Raspberry Leaf Tea

Raspberry leaf tea has been used for generations to support women’s reproductive health. It is sometimes called “the woman’s herb” because of its long history of use for menstrual and uterine health.

It contains nutrients such as magnesium, calcium, and iron, and is often used by women who want to support a more comfortable menstrual cycle. It may also help ease menstrual cramps.

Raspberry leaf tea can be a nourishing herbal tea to include as part of a regular wellness routine.

3. Chamomile Tea

Chamomile is probably best known as a tea that helps people relax before bed, but its benefits go beyond sleep.

Stress plays a big role in hormone health. When stress levels are high, the body produces more cortisol, and over time that can influence other hormones in the body as well.

Chamomile tea has natural calming properties that may help support relaxation and nervous system balance. If you look at the tea aisle you will also notice many relaxing blends that include chamomile paired with other soothing herbs and flavors. Some popular combinations include chamomile with lavender or chamomile with vanilla, which can make a comforting evening tea.

4. Ginger Tea

Ginger tea is another one of my personal favorites.

It is a great option for supporting digestion and reducing inflammation in the body. Digestive health plays an important role in overall hormone balance because the body relies on healthy digestion and liver function to help process and eliminate hormones such as estrogen.

Ginger has been studied for its anti inflammatory properties and may help with symptoms like bloating, nausea, or menstrual discomfort. A warm cup after meals can be a very soothing addition to your routine.

5. Ashwagandha Tea

Ashwagandha is an herb often used in traditional Ayurvedic practices and is known as an adaptogen.

Adaptogens are herbs that may help the body respond to stress more effectively. Because chronic stress can affect hormones, sleep, and energy levels, herbs like ashwagandha are sometimes used to support overall balance.

Many people enjoy ashwagandha tea in the evening as part of a calming routine, especially during periods of high stress or burnout.

6. Fennel Tea

Fennel tea is commonly used to support digestion and reduce bloating. It has gentle carminative properties, which means it may help relax the digestive tract and reduce gas or discomfort.

Good digestion also supports the body’s natural detoxification processes, including how hormones are processed and eliminated.

Fennel tea has a mild licorice-like flavor and can be especially soothing after meals.

Creating Your Own Tea Ritual

Adding herbal tea to your day does not need to be complicated. Sometimes the most helpful health habits are the simplest ones.

For many women, the mid afternoon energy slump is when stress and fatigue start to creep in. Instead of reaching for another coffee or something from the vending machine, a cup of tea can be a small way to support your body while giving yourself a few minutes to pause.

Whether it is spearmint after a meal, ginger for digestion, or a calming chamomile blend in the evening, these small daily habits can gently support your overall health, including stress levels, digestion, sleep, and hormone balance.
